Will "Pride" Disrupt Your Child's Life This Spring?

Linda Harvey

Schools are poised to dismiss for the summer. But a lot of mischief can happen in the next few weeks. Because of the upcoming break, accountability to you, the parent, will be minimal.

That’s what the “pride” radicals always count on in May and June.

Parents should be on alert for celebrations of so-called “pride” in K-12 schools in the next few weeks.  Recent years have seen an uptick in school-based blatant promotions of homosexuality, bisexuality and gender confusion, even in elementary schools.

The Austin (TX) school district already held a “pride” week in late March. San Francisco Schools observed “pride” in April. In Howard County Public Schools (MD), a whole array of homosexual and transgender promotional activities have been announced for June, including a middle school dance and a high school “LGBTQ”  prom. In St. Paul (MN), the Minnesota statewide youth “pride” organization will hold a June event. In Arlington Schools (MA) school-wide celebrations occur on May 10, also including the elementary school Rainbow Alliances. Yes, grade schoolers!

But what’s happening in normal/flyover America? Is there hope that a new attitude is on the horizon?

Last year (2024) Cleveland Public Schools posted its official support for “pride” month. This year, there will be a Cleveland “queer” prom in June.  Some Cincinnati Public Schools board, students and staff marched in that city’s “pride” parade in 2024. Columbus City Schools did also. Yet the Columbus district did recently rescind its open bathroom policy in the face of new state law requiring biology to be the basis of bathroom use, and birth certificate names are once again used for all students.

And also in Columbus, the infamous Kaleidoscope Youth Center has cancelled its “LGBTQ” prom scheduled for June because of staffing shortage and lack of a venue.

The times, they are a’ changin’. People are not afraid to speak out—even students.

Middle schoolers in Burlington, MA last year protested that school’s “pride” celebrations by wearing red, white and blue instead of the requested rainbow colors. They received sharp reprimands of “homophobia” from the school board. But a YouTube commentator from PragerU praised the students for their courage.

The methods of indoctrination at school vary, but common tactics include bulletin boards filled with rainbow flags, coloring books, asking students to dress in rainbow apparel, special assemblies (including “drag queens), and of course, novels and storybooks, sometimes forced upon entire classes.

We can’t forget the recent Mahmoud v. Taylor SCOTUS case where a group of “pride storybooks” were the center of the high court’s deliberations about whether parents can opt their children out of mandatory, age-inappropriate propaganda. The court, which seemed mostly favorable to the parents, will issue a ruling this June. This occurred in Montgomery County, Maryland, where a top-ranked high school senior was recently told she can’t graduate because she refused to take a required sexuality class loaded with “LGBTQ” misinformation. She was not allowed  a substitution or the opportunity to opt out.

Yet nationwide, it seems that rainbow radicalism is on the wane. Pride events in the Capitol originally scheduled at the Kennedy Center have been cancelled and some moved elsewhere. Pride parades in numerous cities are losing funding. According to the Washington Stand, 39% of corporations in one survey are decreasing this year’s funding of “pride.”

And bans on “pride” flags are being passed or considered in many school districts and cities. Some have failed, but the state of Utah is the first state to ban the rainbow flags at schools and on government buildings. Similar bills are being considered in several other states. And Ohio University is among the institutions of higher education in Ohio now closing its “multicultural center,” which includes its “pride center,” following passage of a new Ohio law banning DEI in higher education.

Saticoy Elementary School in North Hollywood, California was the site of a planned “Gay Pride Spirit/Rainbow Day” assembly in early June, 2023. Parents protested and fights broke out. One high school in New Hampshire that year planned to use COVID relief funds from the American Rescue Plan for a “drag” performance, but many in the community objected.

There have been some modest school successes even in blue states to push back the incessant agenda. For instance, the Elk Grove (CA) Schools recognized Pride Month last year and the district allows “LGBT” clubs for elementary students, called “Rainbow Clubs” or “UBU.”  These were promoted by a third grade male teacher who emphasized that these clubs were a place for “boys who crush on boys,” or “girls who crush on girls.”

A flyer for Markofer Elementary School students in that district simply advertised a “safe” place with games etc., with no mention about the connection to “LGBT” behaviors.

Greg Burt from California Family Council reported on this, describing how officials in California maintain that children have privacy rights separate from their parents. Parents had no knowledge of these clubs until they heard from their children and then when some contacted the principal, discovered there were six elementary school “gay” clubs in the district. About 30 parents showed up at the principal’s office, requesting parental permission for their children to attend these clubs.

Meanwhile, activist teachers mobilized and arranged for a special after- school session called “Responding to Resistance,” about ways to overcome parents’ concerns about the clubs.

Parents staged a walk -out in March 2024 over these grade school clubs and then sought legal counsel to issue a cease -and-desist letter. The good news is that the district gave parents the right to be notified and sign off if their children were interested in these clubs.

These clubs should not exist in grade schools but if they do, this is the very least parents should expect.

Homosexual/transgender clubs are now the norm in middle and high schools, but their emergence in elementary schools is a horrifying recent trend, and parents should see this as the red flag it is. These activists will not pause in their determination to groom even your youngest children.

Why is all this deeply, tragically wrong? Because not only is Christian Scripture clear on the grave sin of homosexuality and gender deviance (despite compromised teaching in some churches), but the social and health risks remain high. It’s also true that no person is born “gay” or born in the wrong sex body.

Please do whatever you can do remove the promotion of homosexuality and gender deviance from your schools. And teach your children the truth instead! We have resources at missionamerica.com.
