The rulers of San Francisco have suddenly discovered a concern for children. But it’s not for their emotional, medical and spiritual stability. Nor is it a concern about potential molestation in a town where unsupervised interaction between pre-teens and adult homosexuals is not only a “right,” but a big yawn.
No, the real concern here about kids involves French fries. And toys. Combining the two is potentially as lethal as, say, lead poisoning.
Now, let’s understand this city was built on risky behavior. Over 25,000 homosexual men have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco since the epidemic began. Homosexual behavior among men accounts for 85 - 89% of HIV/AIDS cases in that city, so there’s not a big mystery about what’s causing this disease. And despite antiretroviral drug treatments, the lives of those infected are gravely impacted and often shortened.
Rectal gonorrhea and syphilis among male homosexuals is also high in the city by the Bay, along with intravenous drug use.
So of course the Board of Supervisors in no way discourages dozens of “gay” bath houses, bars and sex clubs with names like Steamworks and Eros, and sex-drenched street events like the annual Folsom Street Fair, attended by thousands of nude, cruising homosexual males. Instead, they are cracking down on Happy Meals.
At the end of next year, the city will prohibit the inclusion of toys with children’s meals high in calories, sugar and salt. The toy anti-discrimination lobby has yet to respond.
"We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," said Supervisor Eric Mar, sponsor of the measure, citing the epidemic of childhood obesity. All very laudable, this new concern with epidemics and such.
The Supervisors’ righteous stand, which needs one more vote to become finalized, is inspired by San Francisco’s sustainable food effort, an arm of city government. The Food Systems Office has an entire bureaucracy of food police, complete with ordinances, permits, leases, audits, and all the necessary accoutrements of a Politburo. This program, initiated by Mayor Gavin Newsom in 2009, perhaps followed his discovery of the unique “sustainability” of same sex couples as marriage partners. No, wait....
Actually, the real reason why Californians rejected the legalization of marijuana in the November election is that it’s unnecessary. There’s no more capacity for delusion among the populace.
“Food justice” is defined as “the right of every person to have access to fresh, nutritious food.” So the Board evidently believes Bay Area tikes have no knowledge of, and are prevented from obtaining, fruits, veggies, tofu, and even cherry Gummy Bears. Heartbreaking scenarios come to mind: bananas slipped from small, trembling fingers; broccoli ripped from Barbie backpacks; and orange slices slammed against lockers. Is there no limit to the vast, probably right-wing, conspiracy to keep children and nutrients apart?
This systemic oppression may result in real or perceived chubbiness in children. And along with defending its citizens from the evils of traditional marriage and condemning theCatholic Church, the Board of Supervisors has honed in on this new ominous threat to public order and community health. It’s an unexpected turn toward the rigid and narrow by these self-appointed tolerance monitors.
Now the impact of such threats may be fairly low, considering there are only around thirty-seven total children living in this very adult city. Not really, but it’s notable that, relative to the rest of California, the percentage of citizens under eighteen in SF is nearly half the state-wide rate. Maybe now we know why: they are fleeing with their Cracker Jacks.
Ironically, some children protected from the toxicity of McCarbs and McSodium will still be prescribed sex change hormones in their early teens by loony Bay Area “trans”-affirming medical professionals. Affirmations of such deviance will occur despite San Francisco Department of Public Health statistics showing that male–to female transvestites are apt to contract HIV even younger than the typical “gay” male.
Advice for rapid immersion into the homosexual/bisexual/cross-dressing community is still available daily at San Francisco’s LYRIC center for “youth” ages 24 and under. How far under? That’s pretty undefined, because this is, after all, about choices and fluidity and such, with few or no parents notified or involved. No ageism, sexism, heteronormativity, questioningism, promiscuityism, and so on. There are a surprising number of “no-nos” useful to indoctrinate the junior left.
LYRIC is an organization “where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth are embraced for who they are,” or so its home page declares. What if you are a 12- year- old who eats poorly? Will that, finally, warrant some attention from grown- ups with at least a few standards? It’s all about priorities, you see.
But re-thinking these aberrations is off the table, as is any notion of preserving childhood innocence or sexual integrity. On the table for moral dissection and government intrusion is the “injustice” of a small hamburger, fries and maybe a Transformer.
Certainly childhood obesity is an issue that needs to be addressed, and I applaud responsible efforts to re-educate families and children. But government control? Why, when there are severe health problems screaming for effective, not token, solutions?
Maybe this is San Francisco’s pathetic and tacit admission that indeed, they have lost control over anything that matters. It may be the equivalent of running up a white flag.
Meanwhile, the little tike who asks for “more” at the San Francisco table is welcome to condoms, welcome to estrogen injections, welcome to a plateful of pro-“GLBT” pabulum, but no chicken nuggets, unless you hand over that Megamind figure.
Where’s Charles Dickens when we need him?
